News - Red Line Crash

Late in the evening of 2/19/2010, a driver attempting to turn right from Memorial Drive onto Main St and the Longfellow Bridge instead crashed through the steel fence separating the roadway from the MBTA Red Line rails, ending up on the southbound tracks after knocking the third rail from its insulators and clipping the northbound train. The driver carried a stop sign and traffic light from the intersection some 50 feet away. Massachusetts State Police arrested the driver after performing a breathalyzer test.
